Chachai Falls, Sirmaur, Madhya
Pradesh
Chachai Falls is a waterfall located in Chachai Village near Sirmaur Town in Rewa District in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the 23rd highest waterfall in India and second highest in Madhya Pradesh. It is situated at the edge of the Chitrakoot Hills, a part of the Kaimur Range. It was once praised by former Indian Prime Minister Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru for its breathtaking charisma and beauty.
The Waterfall
The waterfall is situated on the Bihad River, a tributary of Tamsa or Tons River as it comes down from the Rewa Plateau. It has a total height of 130 metres (430 ft). The flow of the river, however, has been reduced by the creation of a dam, for generating electricity for the state and providing irrigation facilities around the falls. The grand canyon of Chachai falls is visible from a distance, especially when the water flow is low.
It is an example of a nick point
caused by rejuvenation. Knick point, also called a nick point or simply nick,
represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by
rejuvenation. The break in channel gradient allows water to fall vertically
giving rise to a waterfall. The best time to visit this waterfall is during
post monsoon. There are a few rest houses for tourist accommodation near the
Chachai Falls.
Connectivity
The falls is located at about 9
Kms from Sirmaur, 9 Kms from Sirmaur Bus Stand, 36 Kms from Rewa, 36 Kms from
Rewa Railway Station, 43 Kms from Mangawan, 62 Kms from Satna and 63 Kms from
Satna Airport. The falls is situated on Rewa to Sirmaur route.
