Barehipani Falls is a two-tiered waterfall located in Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the second highest waterfall in India and the highest waterfall in Odisha. The Joranda Falls is situated closed to this waterfall.



The Waterfall

The waterfall is situated on the Budhabalanga River flowing over Meghasuni mountain of the Eastern Ghats within the boundary of the Simlipal National Park. It is a tiered waterfall with two drops with a total height of about 399 metres (1,309 ft). The tallest single drop is 259 metres (850 ft). It is just 55 metres lesser in height than the Kunchikal Falls, the highest waterfall of India. The falls dropping the from the cliff forms a wide pool at the bottom.



It is very violent in nature during the monsoons which is evident from the lack of vegetation around the falls. It is a major tourist attraction and large numbers of tourists visit this place during their visit to Similipal National Park. This fall is also famous for picnic spot, trekking, and sightseeing. The Similipal National Park is known for its wild elephants, gaurs (Indian bison), Bengal tigers and chausingha (four horned antelope) population.

The Falls is located at about 68 Kms from Baripada Railway Station, 70 Kms from Baripada, 98 Kms from Balasore, 208 Kms from Jamshedpur, 279 Kms from Bhubaneswar, 283 Kms from Bhubaneswar Airport and 290 Kms from Kolkata. Baripada is situated on Balasore to Jamshedpur (NH 18).

The Waterfall

The falls is located in the main area of Similipal National Park. It has total height of about 150 metres (490 ft). The water plunges over a lofty cliff in a single drop, spreading out slightly as it falls. . It is a major tourist attraction and large numbers of tourists visit this place during their visit to Similipal National Park. This fall is also famous for picnic spot, trekking, and sightseeing. The Similipal National Park is known for its wild elephants, gaurs (Indian bison), Bengal tigers and chausingha (four horned antelope) population.
