Satpura Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh
Satpura Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve located in Narmadapuram and Chhindwara Districts of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. The tiger reserve derives its name from the Satpura Range. This tiger reserve is situated in the Satpura landscape in the Deccan peninsular biogeographic zone of central Indian highlands.
History
The forests of the Satpura Tiger Reserve was first explored by Captain James Forsyth of Bengal Lancers in 1857 while he was searching for Indian Freedom Fighter Tantya Tope. It is one of the first declared Reserved Forest Area of India due to its ecological and commercial importance. The national park was established in 1981. The national park was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 2000. The national park won the TOFT Wildlife Tourism Award in the year 2010 for “Most Visitor Friendly” wildlife destinations.

Safari
The core zones available for safari are Bheemkund
(Churna), Madhai, Mallupura, Panaarpani (Pachmarhi). The buffer zones available
for safari are Burgodi (Pipariya), Jamani Dev, Parsapani, Tamia Delakhari. The
reserve is usually open for tourists from 16th of October to 30th
of June.

· Evenings: 03.00 pm to 06.30 pm

Connectivity
There three entrance gates for Satpura Tiger Reserve
namely Madhai Gate, Panarpani Gate and Bheemkund Gate. The most popular gate is
Madhai Entry Gate. The Madhai Entry Gate is situated at about 19 Kms to the
south of Sohagpur on the Narmadapuram to Pipariya route. The Panarpani Entry
Gate is situated in Pachmarhi Hill Station and located at about 7 Kms from
Pachmarhi Bus Stand. The Bheemkund Gate is situated on the Narmadapuram to
Betul route and located close to Tawa Reservoir.
The Madhai Entry Gate is located at about 18 Kms from
Sohagpur Railway Station, 19 Kms from Sohagpur Bus Stand, 41 Kms from Pipariya,
62 Kms from Narmadapuram, 65 Kms from Itarsi, 81 Kms from Panarpani Entry Gate,
89 Kms from Pachmarhi, 119 Kms from Bheemkund Gate, 141 Kms from Narsinghpur,
146 Kms from Bhopal Airport, 151 Kms from Betul, and 231 Kms from Jabalpur.
