Popatkhed Dam, Akot, Maharashtra
Popatkhed Dam is an earthfill dam on Dather River in Popatkhed Village in Akot Taluk in Akola District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. This dam is locally called Popatkhed Talav / Popatkhed Lake. The dam was constructed in 2005 by the Government of Maharashtra.
The Dam
It is an earth fill gravity dam built across the Dather River. The dam consists of two bunds and their respective lengths are 778 m and 1100 m. The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 42.6 m (140 ft). The spillway is about 69 m. The gross storage capacity is 12,192.00 km3 (2,925.02 cu mi). The dam can replenish dried borewells as far as 15 to 20 Kms. The dam is also a popular tourist attraction and known for its scenic beauty.

The dam is located at about 13 Kms
from Akot, 13 Kms from Akot Bus Stand, 14 Kms from Akot Railway Station, 62 Kms
from Akola, 66 Kms from Harisal and 249 Kms from Nagpur Airport. The dam is
situated on Akot to Harisal route.
