Devi Point is a viewpoint situated in Chikhaldara Hill Station in Chikhaldara Taluk in Amravati District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Chikhaldara is also called Kichakdara. This viewpoint is considered as one of the famous tourist destinations in Chikhaldara. The point is almost near to the hill top, from where the entire forest region of the Melghat Sanctuary is visible. The ruins of the Amravati Fort are also visible at a distance from the hill top.



It is situated just opposite to the Shakkar Lake. It is named as Devi point because of the presence of the devi temple. The temple is situated inside a cave and can be accessed through a narrow lane. There is a small waterfall near the cave. Devi Point is the place from where river Chandrabhaga originates and flows amidst the rocky ranges.

Shakkar Lake is a waterbody situated in Chikhaldara Hill Station in Chikhaldara Taluk in Amravati District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Chikhaldara is also called Kichakdara. It is the second biggest lake in Chikhaldara after Kalapani lake. It is situated near Devi point on the way towards the Gawilgarh fort. Boating is available in this lake. Tourists can enjoy speed boats, pedal boats, and scooter boats. The lake has sweet water and hence the lake came to be called as Shakkar (Sugar Lake).

Legends

As per legend, Bhima, one of the Pandavas killed a demon named Kichaka and threw his body in the valley called Kichakdara and bathed in a pond called Bhim Kund. 

The View Point

Bhimkund is nearly 3500 feet deep. This viewpoint offers a breathtaking view of the valley and the waterfall. It is advised to visit this place during monsoon to witness the beauty of this place in full glory. This place is situated on the Chikhaldara to Motha route.

Chikhaldara Hill Station is a Hill Station located in Chikhaldara Taluk in Amravati District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Chikhaldara is also called Kichakdara. Chikhaldara the only hill station in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Hence, Chikhaldara is known as Kashmir of Vidarbha. Chikhaldara is also one of the gateways to the Melghat Tiger ReserveIt is the only coffee-growing area in Maharashtra. It is situated in the border of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.


Legends

As per legend, Bhima, one of the Pandavas killed a demon named Kichaka and threw his body in the valley. Thus, the place came to be called Kichakdara which later got corrupted into Chikhaldara. However, Chikhaldara means mud stream / waterfall (Chikal means mud and Dhara means stream / waterfall) in Marathi.


The Hill Station

This hill station is situated at an altitude of about 1118 meters above mean sea level. It is situated on the plateau in Satpura Range of mountains which lies at the border of states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. It is the only coffee-growing area in Maharashtra. It is the one of the gateways to the Melghat Tiger Reserve. The best time to visit this hill station is post monsoon (October to June).

Risala Dam is an earthfill dam on Risala River located in Nandalpar Village in Tirora Taluk in Gondia District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nagzira National Park. The dam was constructed in 1967 by the Government of Maharashtra.

This dam is an earth fill gravity dam built across the Risala River. The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 19.2 m (63 ft) while the length is 205 m (762.5 ft). The maximum / gross storage capacity is 6.359 MCM. The dam is also a popular tourist attraction and known for its scenic beauty.

Chorkhamara Dam is an earthfill dam on Sasanda River located in Chorkhamara Village in Tirora Taluk in Gondia District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nagzira National Park. The dam was constructed in 1923 during the British Raj.



The Dam

This dam is an earth fill gravity dam built across the Sasanda River. The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 21.05 m (69.1 ft) while the length is 1,178 m (3,865 ft). The volume content is 300 km3 (72 cu mi) and gross storage capacity is 21,051.00 km3 (5,050.40 cu mi). The dam is also a popular tourist attraction and known for its scenic beauty.

Bodalkasa Dam is an earthfill dam on Bhagdeogoti River located in Bodalkasa Village in Tirora Taluk in Gondia District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nagzira National Park. The dam was constructed in 1917 by the British Raj.

This dam is an earth fill gravity dam built across the Bhagdeogoti River. The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 19.2 m (63 ft) while the length is 510 m (1,670 ft). The volume content is 0.010762 km3 (0.002582 cu mi) and gross storage capacity is 0.017392 km3 (0.004173 cu mi). The dam is also a popular tourist attraction and known for its scenic beauty. A Maharashtra Government Rest house is situated near to this dam.
